A child’s question to Tinubu and Makinde

LAST Wednesday, on our way to his summer camp, my eight-year-old son asked me a troubling question: “Daddy, have the 39 schoolchildren and their 7 teachers kidnapped from the Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State been released?”

I told him no. The federal government says it is working on it.

And on Saturday, Nigerians learnt that the sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her two sons had been rescued only three days after their abduction. Their rescue was welcome news. Every rescued Nigerian is a victory for the country. Every family reunited deserves celebration.

Yet the contrast raises uncomfortable questions.
